I was born in Lisbon after the Carnation Revolution and grew up on the south side (a.k.a. margem sul). I obtained my PhD in 2007 at the Universit\u00e9 Paris VII and have been working since then at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My research interests are broad. They include algebraic geometry, algebraic topology, K-theory, homotopy algebra and the theory of motives. In a nutshell, algebraic geometry studies the solutions of systems of polynomial equations, algebraic topology studies continuous spaces up to deformation, K-theory can be defined as linear algebra parameterized over a continuous space, homotopy algebra is a generalization of classical algebra where the notion of equality is replaced by the notion of homotopy, and the theory of motives is a fantastic creation of Grothendieck that I leave the reader with the pleasure of discovering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I am the author of the book “Noncommutative Motives”, published by the American Mathematical Society and prefaced by Yuri I. Manin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
