SUMMARY:Workshop Commemorating Frege: Logic and Philosophy of Mathematics
DESCRIPTION:\nThis workshop will commemorate the philosophical work and legacy of Gottlob Frege on the occasion of the centenary, in 2025, of his death. It aims to bring together philosophers working on Frege’s and Fregean approaches to logic and the philosophy of mathematics, both from a historical and a contemporary perspective.\n\n\n\nInvited speakers:\n\n\n\nFrancesca Boccuni (Vita-Salute San-Raffaele University)\n\n\n\nPhilip Ebert (University of Stirling)\n\n\n\nLeila Haaparanta (University of Helsinki)\n\n\n\nErich H. Reck (UC Riverside)\n\n\n\nKai F. Wehmeier (UC Irvine)\n\n\n\nCrispin Wright (University of Stirling)\n\n\n\nOrganisers: Bruno Jacinto (CFUL, LanCog), Fernando Ferreira (CEMS.UL), Joan Bertran-San-Millán (CFUL, LanCog).\n\n\n\nThis workshop is funded by the Centre of Philosophy of the University of Lisbon (CFUL) (UIDB/00310/2020) and the Centre for Mathematical Studies of the University of Lisbon (CEMS.UL) (UID/04561/2025).\n\n\n\nCall for Abstracts\n\n\n\nIn addition to six invited talks, the organisers are calling for submissions for six contributed talks. We welcome  proposals, especially from early career researchers, that engage with Fregean approaches to logic and the philosophy of mathematics. Contributed talks are expected to be 60 minutes-long (plus 30 minutes-long discussion).\n\n\n\nProposals for contributed talks should consist of 300-word abstract. These should be sent by email attachment in PDF format, with name and affiliation, to bmjacinto [at] ciencias.ulisboa.pt and jbmillan [at] ciencias.ulisboa.pt by Wednesday 30 April 2025. Notification of the talks selected for presentation will be by Friday 30 May 2025.\n\n\n\nTalks will be given in-person. We are applying for funding that we hope will enable us to cover or at least help with travel expenses and accommodation of the contributed speakers.\n
