The organization of the Historical Archive Fund (AHA-ACL) is based on two axes, between which there is an intrinsic correlation:
- Study of institutional history;
- Organizational-functional classification, in order to systematise and respect the Academy's internal structure.
In addition to the documentation that makes up this general fund, there are also:
- The files of AHA-ACL academics since its foundation - this accounts for around two thousand members since its foundation and includes all types of documentation associated with ACL activities.
We would like to highlight some of our fellows:
In the 18th century - Abade Correia da Serra (founding member, elected on 24-12-1779), Frei Manuel do Cenáculo (elected on 28-06-1780); in the 19th century Francisco Gomes Teixeira (elected on 30-06-1876), Alexandre Herculano (elected on 21-02-1844); in the 20th century António Egas Moniz (elected on 20-01-1916), and the first female academic Maria Amália Vaz de Carvalho (elected on 13-06-1912) became a member.
- The Secretary's Books - it concerns composite books, produced by the administrative services or compiled a posteriori, at the time of binding loose manuscripts without distinguishing the producing bodies and document types. It is divided into two series:
Series A – documentation corresponds to the income and expenses of the ACL establishments;
Series B – includes Minute Books, members' correspondence, diploma registry, official correspondence, etc.
- Other funds related to personal legacies.
We highlight the personal archive of Caetano Beirão (elected member on 16-02-1852).
