He is a Full Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Aveiro. He is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and received the Stimulus to Excellence Award, FCT, 2004, and ICOM 2022 Award, for lifetime achievements in the field of optical materials. Throughout his career, Dr. Carlos has had the privilege of serving as a visiting professor at institutions such as S. Paulo State University, Brazil, University of Montpellier, France, Nanjing Tech University, China, and University of Wroclaw, Poland. In 2000, he founded the research group &#8220;Phantom-g&#8221; at the University of Aveiro, which focuses on photonic hybrids and nanomaterials. Dr. Carlos&#8217;s research interests primarily lie in the realm of luminescent materials for multiple sensing applications.
