Jos\u00e9 A. S. Cavaleiro graduated in Physical and Chemical Sciences at the University of Coimbra (1965) and obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Liverpool (1973). His Habilitation in Chemistry was awarded by the University of Aveiro (1984).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has been a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the American Chemical Society and the New York Academy of Sciences. He is a member of the Portuguese Society of Chemistry. In 2009, he was elected Corresponding Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences; since 2023, he is a full member of the Portuguese Academy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During his career, he has held the following academic positions: Assistant Professor (1966-1973, Universities of Coimbra and Louren\u00e7o Marques), Assistant Professor (1973-1979, Universities of Louren\u00e7o Marques and Aveiro) and, later, at the University of Aveiro, Associate Professor (1979-1986), Full Professor (1986-2013), Retired\/Invited Full Professor (2013-2022) and Professor Emeritus (2023\u2013>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has received the following scientific awards: \u201cParke-Davis (1973, Robert Robinson Laboratories, University of Liverpool), \u201cFerreira da Silva\u201d (2004, Portuguese Chemical Society), \u201cEst\u00edmulo \u00e0 Excel\u00eancia\u201d (2004, Portuguese Ministry of Science and Technology), \u201cCelestino da Costa\/Jean Perrin\u201d (2005, French Embassy and Association of Portuguese Doctorates in France), \u201cMadinaveitia-Louren\u00e7o\u201d (2010, Royal Spanish Chemical Society and Portuguese Chemical Society), \u201cSibeaqo2\u201d (2010, Ibero-American Symposium on Organic Chemistry), \u201cRevista Virtual de Qu\u00edmica\u201d (2014, Brazilian Chemical Society).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
