He is a researcher and group leader at Instituto de Telecomunica\u00e7\u00f5es. He has received several awards and honors: Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Fellow of the International Association for Pattern Recognition, Fellow of the European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP), Fellow of the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems, EURASIP Technical Achievement Award, IEEE W. R. G. Baker Award.
