She was first elected as a Correspondent Member in 2010.<br>She is a retired Full Professor of the Lisbon School of Law of the Catholic University of Portugal (UCP) (since 2017), having gained her PhD there in 1994, with a thesis entitled \u201cDa justi\u00e7a administrativa em Portugal. Sua origem e evolu\u00e7\u00e3o\u201d [The Origins and Evolution of Administrative Justice in Portugal].<br>Maria da Gl\u00f3ria has been a member of a number of law-making committees, including the committees that drafted the Nationality Law, the Administrative Reform Draft Bill, and the revision of the Administrative Procedure Code. She also produced the drafts for the Notaries Statute and the Portuguese Notary Association Statute.<br>She has undertaken research and published in the areas of Administrative Law, Constitutional Law, General Theory of the State, Environmental Law, Urban Planning Law and Public Policy Law.<br>In addition to teaching at UCP, Maria da Gl\u00f3ria has also lectured at the University of Lisbon (UL), Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL) and the University of Minho (UM).<br>She has been a member of the Permanent Committee of the Senate of UL (1998-2000), Vice-Rector of UCP (2000-2004), a member of the Board of G\u00f6rres-Gesellschaft. Zur Pfleger der Wissenshaft (2000-2004), a member of the National Council for the Evaluation of Higher Education (CNAVES) (2003-2007), Dean of the Law School of UCP (2010-2013), Rector of UCP (2012-2016), and a member of the Faculty Board of the European Law and Governance School (ELGS) of the International University School of the European Public Law Organization (EPLO) (2020-2022).<br>Maria da Gl\u00f3ria Garcia is a member of the Scientific Council assisting the President of the Portuguese Agency for Evaluation and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES) (since December 2022) and President of the General Assembly of the UCP Scientific Society (since December 2024).<br>In March 1995 she was awarded the merit of Grand Officer of the Order of Infante Dom Henrique, and in October 2016, the Grand Cross of the Order of Public Instruction.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maria da Gl\u00f3ria Garcia has been a permanent member of the Law section (5th section) of the Class of Letters of the Academy of Sciences of Lisbon since 2010 and Vice-President of the Class of Letters since 2022.
