A journalist, researcher, and olisipographer, he developed a career marked by the study of Portuguese culture and journalistic activity. He began his professional path at the newspaper <em>Rep\u00fablica<\/em>, joining <em>Di\u00e1rio de Not\u00edcias<\/em> in 1960, where he remained until 1968. He was one of the founders of the newspaper <em>A Capital<\/em> and headed the Lisbon editorial office of the Porto-based newspaper <em>O Primeiro de Janeiro<\/em>. He also distinguished himself as editor-in-chief of the magazine <em>Vida Mundial<\/em>, returning to <em>Di\u00e1rio de Not\u00edcias<\/em> in 1980, where he conducted in-depth work on Fernando Pessoa, the Portuguese Society of Writers, and the newspaper\u2019s 125th anniversary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With a distinguished career in journalism, Ant\u00f3nio Valdemar was the first professional to receive a press card issued by the Portuguese Press Credentials Commission, serving on its General Council for several terms. He taught journalism and conducted courses on Social Communication and Portuguese Culture in the 19th and 20th centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An author of books, essays, and reports on Lisbon, he was one of the main contributors to the <em>Dicion\u00e1rio da Hist\u00f3ria de Lisboa<\/em>, directed and coordinated by Francisco Santana. He wrote numerous articles, reports, interviews, lectures, and other contributions to conferences on the Portuguese language and Lusophone cultures. He also authored more than twenty prefaces for literary works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He participated in congresses, seminars, symposia, and other national and international events on behalf of the National Academy of Fine Arts, serving as a jury member for its annual awards from 1987 to 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Elected a corresponding member of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences in 1994 and a full member in 2008, he was awarded honorary membership of the Portuguese Writers&#8217; Association in 2019. Among his notable works are interviews and studies on Almada Negreiros, published in <em>Almada \u2014 Os Pain\u00e9is, a Geometria e Tudo.
