Carlos A. M. Afonso (Orcid: 0000-0002-7284-5948) is currently Professor at Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon. He received his PhD in 1990 from Faculty of Science and Technology, New University of Lisbon (FCT-UNL) under supervision of Professor C. D. Maycock, subsequently became Assistant Professor at FCT-UNL and Associate Professor at Instituto Superior T\u00e9cnico in Lisbon (2004-2010), and took a postdoctoral fellow (1990) at Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine (W.B. Motherwell) and sabbatical leave (1997\/1998) at University of Bath,UK (Jonathan Williams) and at the University of Toronto (Robert Batey). His current research is mainly focused on synthetic methodologies, more sustainable chemistry, synthetic valorization of national natural resources and synthesis of bioactive molecules. He his co-author of 258 original articles, 20 review, 7 national patents\/appl., 7 European patents\/appl. h-index: 59 and co-editor of the books Afonso C. A. M, Crespo J.
