Since 1999, he has been professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Minho. In 2004, he was awarded the prestigious Orlando Ribeiro National Prize by the Portuguese Association of Geographers in recognition of his doctoral thesis, Representation, Imagination and Virtual Space: Geographies of Tourism Landscapes in West Cork and the Azores. At the University of Minho, he has held various management positions, including Vice-President for Research and Internationalization of the Institute of Social Sciences (2019-2022); President of the Course Council of the Institute of Social Sciences (2004-2007); Director of the Department of Geography (2004-2006); and Director of the Research Unit of the Department of Geography (2003-2007); Director of the PhD Program of the Department of Geography (2012-2013); Director of the Degree in Geography and Planning (2023-present); Departmental Coordinator of the Erasmus Program (2009-2015) &amp; (2017-present). He has published extensively in the fields of Cultural Geography, Postcolonial Studies, Tourism Studies, Urban Studies, and Geographical Thought.Notable works include Orlando Ribeiro &#8211; Cadernos de Campo, Angola 1960-1969. Famalic\u00e3o, H\u00famus (2022); Fortifications, Postcolonialism and Power: Ruins and Imperial Legacies. Ashgate, London (2011); and History of Tourism in Colonial Lusophone Africa. He has also contributed to The Oxford Research Encyclopedia of African History, published by Oxford University Press in New York (2024), as well as the Geographies of the Body. Essays in Cultural Geography (Figueirinhas: Porto, 2009). The following works have been cited in the Journal of Tourism History: &#8220;Motor Travel in Mozambique in the Late 1920s and Conquering Space: Reading Rufino&#8217;s Photographic Albums&#8221; (16.1 [2024]). The work &#8220;Geography and Empire&#8221; appears in Oxford Bibliographies in Geography, edited by Barney Warf (New York: Oxford University Press, 2021). The work &#8220;The Colonial Hotel: Spacing Violence at the Grande Hotel of Beira, Mozambique&#8221; appears in Environment and Planning D.
