He graduated in Geography, specializing in the scientific branch, from the University of Porto in 1994; he completed his master’s degree in Geography from the National University of Ireland, Cork, Ireland, in 1996; his doctorate in Geography from University College Cork, Ireland, in 2001; and his habilitation in Human Geography from the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning, University of Lisbon, in 2014. Since 1999, he has been professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Minho. In 2004, he was awarded the prestigious Orlando Ribeiro National Prize by the Portuguese Association of Geographers in recognition of his doctoral thesis, Representation, Imagination and Virtual Space: Geographies of Tourism Landscapes in West Cork and the Azores. At the University of Minho, he has held various management positions, including Vice-President for Research and Internationalization of the Institute of Social Sciences (2019-2022); President of the Course Council of the Institute of Social Sciences (2004-2007); Director of the Department of Geography (2004-2006); and Director of the Research Unit of the Department of Geography (2003-2007); Director of the PhD Program of the Department of Geography (2012-2013); Director of the Degree in Geography and Planning (2023-present); Departmental Coordinator of the Erasmus Program (2009-2015) & (2017-present). He has published extensively in the fields of Cultural Geography, Postcolonial Studies, Tourism Studies, Urban Studies, and Geographical Thought.Notable works include Orlando Ribeiro – Cadernos de Campo, Angola 1960-1969.
