Professor at IST-University\u00a0 of Lisbon, where she is Chair of\u00a0 the\u00a0 Architecture\u00a0 Scientific\u00a0 Board\u00a0 and\u00a0 in\u00a0 charge\u00a0 of\u00a0 the\u00a0 PhD\u00a0 program,\u00a0 as\u00a0 well\u00a0 as\u00a0 leader\u00a0 of\u00a0 the Heritage\u00a0 research\u00a0 line\u00a0 at\u00a0 CiTUA\u00a0 research\u00a0 center.\u00a0 Invited professor at University of Tokyo, ETSAUN, Polimo and Faculdade Arquitetura Universidade Porto, she has published Key Papers in Modern Architectural Heritage Conservation (2012), Modern Architecture in Africa: Angola and Mozambique (2013), Modern Heritage. Reuse, Renovation, Restoration (Birkha\u00fcser 2022), The Critical Monumentality of \u00c1lvaro Siza (2023), Modernist Women Creators (2024) and Modernism in Africa (Docomomo-Birkha\u00fcser 2024).<br>President of Docomomo International and editor of the Docomomo Journal between 2010 and 2021, her 12 years mandate has been marked by the transformation of the organisation into a truly worldwide network and the Docomomo Journal into the international periodical which provides a critical look at the contemporary context focused on the sustainable reuse of the Modern Built Heritage.<br>Her research\u00a0 field is the Critical\u00a0 History\u00a0 and Theory\u00a0 of Modern\u00a0 Movement\u00a0 Architecture.\u00a0 On these topics, she has published 29 books and 108 scientific articles, curated 10 exhibitions and organized 46 scientific events. She coordinated\u00a0 14 research projects, supervised 33 doctoral theses and 47 master&#8217;s theses,\u00a0 participated\u00a0 in\u00a0 55\u00a0 juries\u00a0 and\u00a0 47\u00a0 scientific\u00a0 committees,\u00a0 and\u00a0 gave\u00a0 more than a hundred\u00a0 lectures\u00a0 at American, Asian, African, and European universities. Focusing on the Colonial and Post-Colonial\u00a0 condition, she coordinated\u00a0\u00a0 a\u00a0 research\u00a0\u00a0 project\u00a0 on\u00a0 sub-Saharan\u00a0\u00a0 African\u00a0\u00a0 architecture\u00a0\u00a0 whose\u00a0 publication\u00a0\u00a0 Modern Architecture in Africa was recognized by the Gulbenkian Prize, as well as the &#8220;Heal and Care&#8221; project with the edition of the book Cure &amp; Care, architecture and health (2020). She received the Prize of X Bienal Ibero-Americana de Arquitectura y Urbanismo. She\u00a0 has\u00a0 been\u00a0 invited\u00a0 as keynote\u00a0 speaker\u00a0 at some\u00a0 leading\u00a0 universities\u00a0 such\u00a0 as ETH\u00a0 Swiss\u00a0 Federal Institute of Technology (Switzerland), University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture (US), Rice School of Architecture (US), Chitkara School of Planning and Architecture (India), Xi&#8217;an University of Architecture &amp; Technology (China), University Eduardo Mondlane, Maputo (Mozambique), Escuela T\u00e9cnica\u00a0 Superior\u00a0 de Arquitectura\u00a0 &#8211; Universidad\u00a0 de\u00a0 Sevilla\u00a0 (Spain),\u00a0 Faculty\u00a0 of\u00a0 Architecture,\u00a0 Brno (Czech\u00a0 Republic),\u00a0 Faculty\u00a0 of\u00a0 Architecture\u00a0\u00a0 and\u00a0 Urbanism\u00a0 at\u00a0 the\u00a0 University\u00a0 of\u00a0 Brasilia\u00a0 (Brazil), Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Universidade Nacional Aut\u00f3noma M\u00e9xico (M\u00e9xico), Accademia\u00a0\u00a0 di\u00a0 Architettura\u00a0\u00a0 di\u00a0 Mendrisio\u00a0\u00a0 (Switzerland),\u00a0\u00a0 Universit\u00e0\u00a0\u00a0 di\u00a0 Bologna\u00a0\u00a0 (Italy),\u00a0\u00a0 Science University\u00a0 of\u00a0 Tokyo\u00a0 (Japan),\u00a0 Pontificia\u00a0 Universidad\u00a0 Cat\u00f3lica\u00a0 de Chile\u00a0 (Chile),\u00a0 Tongji\u00a0 University, Shanghai (China), University of Navarra (Spain), University of Mantua (Italy).<br>Ana Tost\u00f5es is the Chair of the Docomomo-ISC Publications, member of Docomomo ISC-Registers and ISC-Interior Design. President of AICA_SP and Docomomo_PT, Member of Science Academy of Lisbon and the Fine Arts National Academy, she was awarded the Acad\u00e9mie d\u2019Architecture Award for the Critic and Publications (Paris, 2024), the X Bienal Ibero-Americana de Arquitectura y Urbanismo (2026), the Gulbenkian APH Prize (2014) and she\u2019s Commander of Infante Dom Henrique Order (2006).<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Architect, critic and architectural historian.
