He retired after more than 40 years of public service in teaching (both secondary and higher education) and in pedagogical guidance and inspection. Since 1998, he has been a professor and researcher at Instituto Piaget (Viseu Campus), where, in addition to organizing congresses, he coordinates the activities of the Portuguese Language Research Centre (CILP), particularly in research related to the development of dictionaries and specialized manuals, published by Instituto Piaget.<br>He has published numerous studies and essays in the fields of Portuguese language and literature, linguistics, semiotics, pedagogy, and didactics.
