My academic work has primarily focused on medieval Latin historiography in the Iberian Peninsula, with particular attention to the circulation, reading, and rewriting of texts, as well as the analysis of manuscripts. In addition, I have held leadership positions in both the Department of Classics and the Centre for Classical Studies. My research lies at the intersection of late antique and medieval Latin literature and history. After completing my degree in History (1996), I earned my Ph.D. in Classics and the Classical Tradition (2006) under the supervision of M.C. Díaz y Díaz (University of Santiago de Compostela) and A.A. Nascimento (University of Lisbon). My work has concentrated on late antique and Visigothic historiography, particularly Isidore of Seville’s Historiae. My current research continues to build on my interest in Isidore’s work and the manuscript transmission of Iberian historiographical texts. In recent years, I have focused on identifying and studying Iberian historiographical manuscripts up to the 12th–13th centuries, as well as exploring the historiography of the Portuguese territory prior to the reign of Afonso Henriques. Related topics include the critical edition of Isidore’s Historiae (under contract with Brepols), the influence of Isidore’s work on Iberian historiography, and the origins of Portuguese historiography. I have edited four books, published approximately 60 articles and book chapters, and contributed to numerous editorial projects. Since 2017, I have served as Director of the Centre for Classical Studies (CEC) at the University of Lisbon. I have also contributed to several interdepartmental postgraduate programs, directing the Documentation and Information Sciences program (2014–2023) and the Culture and Communication program (2016–2021) at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. I was Director of the BA in Classics (2014–2024) and, since 2020, I have been the Lisbon co-coordinator of the Erasmus Mundus Master’s in European Literary Cultures (CLE) (https://cle.unibo.it/). Additionally, I held a position as Senior Researcher at the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid (2016) and have been a member of S.I.S.M.E.L. in Florence since 2015.

Since 2023, I have been Full Professor of Classics at the University of Lisbon, specializing in Medieval Iberian Cultures and Literatures.
