He holds a degree in Historical-Philosophical Sciences from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra (1960) and a PhD in <em>Sciences de l\u2019\u00c9ducation<\/em> from the Universit\u00e9 de Caen (France) (1981). At FPCEUL, where he developed his academic career, he coordinated the Master&#8217;s programmes in Educational Sciences and was responsible for the Teacher and Trainer Training Unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was the lead researcher in several major projects in the field of education: PLUX \u2013 Teaching Portuguese to the children of Portuguese emigrant workers in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, FOCO \u2013 Teacher Training through Competencies (1983-1986), and IRA \u2013 Research, Reflection, Action, and Teacher Training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was a member of the National Education Council (1997-2004), President of the Portuguese Section of the Association Francophone Internationale de Recherche Scientifique en \u00c9ducation, President of the Curricular Reform Monitoring Council, and President of the Portuguese Society of Educational Sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among his key publications in the field of Educational Sciences are <em>Teoria e Pr\u00e1tica de Observa\u00e7\u00e3o de Classes: uma estrat\u00e9gia de forma\u00e7\u00e3o de professores<\/em> (1984) (<em>Theory and Practice of Classroom Observation: A Teacher Training Strategy<\/em>), <em>Pedagogia, Ci\u00eancia da Educa\u00e7\u00e3o?<\/em> (1992) (<em>Pedagogy, Education Science?<\/em>), <em>O Tempo e o Lugar das Ci\u00eancias da Educa\u00e7\u00e3o<\/em> (1999) (<em>The Time and Place of Educational Sciences<\/em>), <em>Est\u00f3rias com Pedagogia Dentro<\/em> (2003) (<em>Stories with Pedagogy Inside<\/em>). Alongside his academic work, he has published short stories, chronicles, and other literary texts, including <em>Mapa dos Sabores<\/em> (1994), <em>Cr\u00f3nicas de um portuense arrependido<\/em> (1997), <em>As Mem\u00f3rias que Salazar n\u00e3o escreveu<\/em> (1999), <em>O enterro do Conde de Orgaz: sete hist\u00f3rias em desassossego<\/em> (2000, <em>Porto entrevisto: tr\u00eas paisagens com gente dentro<\/em> (2001), <em>A Minha Vida por um Sonho<\/em> (2004), <em>Um raio de luz na noite escura<\/em> (2006), <em>Contos fant\u00e1sticos e outros textos<\/em> (2018).
