He studied Social Sciences and Sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters of the University of S\u00e3o Paulo \u2013 USP, Brasil (1953). He taught at USP and at the Universities of Nanterre (France), Stanford and Berkeley (USA), Cambridge (United Kingdom), and at the \u00c9cole des Hautes \u00c9tudes en Sciences Sociales (France). He founded the Brazilian Center for Analysis and Planning (1969). Senator, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Minister of Finance (1992\u20131994). Elected the 34th President of Brazil (1995\u20132002).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters (since 2013). Among his numerous foreign decorations, he was awarded the Portuguese Gr\u00e3-Cruz da Ordem do M\u00e9rito (1987), the Grande Colar da Ordem da Liberdade (1995), the Grande Colar da Ordem Militar de Sant\u2019Iago da Espada (1997), the Grande Colar da Ordem do Infante D.
