He earned his second PhD in 1999 at Durham University with a dissertation on the political geography of the Gulf, <em>Power Struggles and Trade in the Gulf (1620\u20131820).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His scholarly work is notable for its rigorous use of primary sources and its critical, comparative approach, establishing a historiographical milestone in the study of Gulf history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As an academic and author, Sheikh Sultan has published extensively on the historical and political dynamics of the Gulf region.
