PhD in History (Complutense University of Madrid, 1973), he has been Director of the National Archaeological Museum (Madrid) and Professor of Archaeology at the University of Valencia (1976-1981) and of Prehistory at the Complutense University of Madrid (1981-2016). Since 1997 he has been an Antiquarian of the Royal Academy of History.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Specialized in pre-Roman peoples of the Iberian Peninsula (Lusitanians, Celts, Tartessians, Iberians and Basques) and urban cultures of the Mediterranean (Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has excavated in Segobriga (Cuenca), Pozo Moro (Albacete) and Medell\u00edn (Badajoz) and in Italy (Gabii), France (Bibracte), Ireland, Germany, Egypt, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has organized exhibitions: <em>I celti <\/em>(Palazzo Grassi, Venecia); <em>Celtas y Vetones<\/em> (\u00c1vila); <em>Corona y Arqueolog\u00eda en el Siglo de las Luces<\/em> (Madrid), <em>Hern\u00e1n Cort\u00e9s<\/em> (Madrid), etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has published more than 1000 books and articles on Archaeology, Ethnogenesis, Museology and Cultural Heritage: <em>El Estanque Monumental de Bibracte, Borgo\u00f1a, Francia (1992), La necr\u00f3polis tart\u00e9sica de Medell\u00edn (2008), Teutates. \u201cEl H\u00e9roe fundador\u201d (2011), Literatura hispana prerromana (2013)<\/em>, <em>Los<\/em> <em>Celtas, imaginario, mitos y literatura en Espa\u00f1a (2013), Berrocales sagrados de Extremadura (2021), Pe\u00f1as sacras de Galicia (2022), <\/em>etc. He has founded the journals <em>Saguntum <\/em>(Valencia) and <em>Complutum<\/em> (Complutense University) and the series <em>Bibliotheca Archaeologica Hispana, Antiquaria Hispanica, Bibliotheca Numismatica Hispana<\/em> and published the <em>Cat\u00e1logo del Gabinete de Antig\u00fcedades de la Real Academia de la Historia.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has supervised 42 doctoral theses, has presented more than 200 papers at conferences and has given 500 lectures in various countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Alexander von Humboldt Award<\/em>, he is a member of the <em>Academy of Art and History of San Damaso<\/em>, the <em>Royal Academy of History<\/em>, the <em>Royal Academy of Doctors of Spain<\/em>, the <em>Portuguese Academy of History<\/em>, the <em>Basque Society of Friends of the Country<\/em>, the <em>International Academy of Prehistory and Protohistory<\/em>, Honorary Academician of the <em>Real Academia de Extremadura de Letras y Artes<\/em> and of the <em>Real Acad\u00e8mia de Cultura Valenciana<\/em> and correspondent of the <em>Academia de les Bones Lletres<\/em> (Barcelona), de <em>l&#8217;Acad\u00e8mie d&#8217;Aix-en-Provence<\/em>, de <em>l&#8217;Acad\u00e8mie des Inscriptions<\/em> <em>et Belles-Lettres<\/em>, and of the <em>Royal Academies of Burgos, Toledo, C\u00f3rdoba, das Ciencias de Lisboa<\/em>, etc.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mart\u00edn Almagro Gorbea is an archaeologist and museologist.
