He translated the works of Jorge Luis Borges and Pablo Neruda into Portuguese. He has received numerous literary awards, including the Jorge de Lima National Poetry Prize from the National Book Institute (1971), the Fernando Chinaglia Prize from the Brazilian Writers\u2019 Union (1974), the Poetry Prize of the S\u00e3o Paulo Association of Art Critics (1999), and the Machado de Assis Prize from the National Library (2000).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A member of the Esp\u00edrito-Santense Academy of Letters, the Historical and Geographical Institute of Esp\u00edrito Santo, and the Brazilian Academy of Philosophy, he served as Secretary-General and President of the Brazilian Academy of Letters. Among his works published in Portugal are: <em>O Po\u00e7o do Calabou\u00e7o<\/em> (1974), <em>A Idade da Eternidade<\/em> (1981), <em>Livro de Gaz\u00e9is<\/em> (1985), <em>O Livro do Peregrino<\/em> (2002), <em>Antologia Po\u00e9tica<\/em> (2003), <em>Arcada Alian\u00e7a<\/em> (2004), and <em>Pequena Enciclop\u00e9dia da Noite<\/em> (2009).<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A lawyer by training, Carlos Nejar is a Brazilian fiction writer, translator, poet, and literary critic.
