He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Salamanca with a dissertation on \u201cLa ense\u00f1anza de la Medicina en Salamanca durante el reinado de Carlos IV.\u201d He is a professor at the Institute of History of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC, Madrid).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A specialist in the History of Science and Culture of the 18th and 19th centuries, he has focused particularly on the History of Medicine, epidemic and psychiatric diseases, legal medicine, medical anthropology, and public health. He was Director of the journal <em>Asclepio \u2013 Revista de Historia de la Medicina y de la Ciencia<\/em> and President of the Bureau of the International Committee of Historical Sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among his numerous published works are: <em>Muerte en Espa\u00f1a<\/em> (1972), <em>La Universidade Espa\u00f1ola, siglos XVIII y XIX<\/em> (1974), <em>Ciencia y Marginaci\u00f3n<\/em> (1983), <em>Las heridas de la Ciencia<\/em> (1993), and <em>Las Melancol\u00edas de Sancho<\/em> (2010).<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Physician and historian, Jos\u00e9 Peset studied at the Universities of Valencia and Salamanca.
