He completed a post-doctoral internship in the History of Grammar in Brazil (2005) at the State University of Rio de Janeiro, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Evanildo Bechara. He is currently a retired professor at Fluminense Federal University, a member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters, where he occupies chair no. 8, the Brazilian Academy of Philology, where he occupies chair no. 29, and a corresponding member of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the <em>Real Gabinete Portugu\u00eas de Leitura<\/em> in Rio de Janeiro and the<em> Liceu Liter\u00e1rio Portugu\u00eas<\/em> in Rio de Janeiro. He is a member of national and international associations in his field of research, including the <em>Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de Linguistique Romane<\/em>, the Henry Sweet Society for the History of Linguistic Ideas, the <em>Societas Linguistica Europeae<\/em>, the <em>Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Brasileira de Lingu\u00edstica<\/em> and the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 d&#8217;Histoire et d&#8217;\u00c9pist\u00e9mologie des Sciences du Langage. He has experience in the fields of Literature and Linguistics, with an emphasis on the description of Portuguese and the historiography of grammatical studies. He is the author of over a hundred academic works in his field, including <em>Fo<\/em>n<em>ologia e morfologia na gram\u00e1tica cient\u00edfica brasileira<\/em>\u00a0(2000),\u00a0<em>Pontos essenciais em fon\u00e9tica e fonologia<\/em>\u00a0(2005),\u00a0<em>Palavras denotativas e termos afins: uma vis\u00e3o argumentativa<\/em>\u00a0(2009),\u00a0<em>A gram\u00e1tica no Brasil: ideias, percursos e par\u00e2metros<\/em>\u00a0(2014) e\u00a0<em>Hist\u00f3ria da gram\u00e1tica no Brasil: s\u00e9culos XVI a XIX<\/em>\u00a0(2022).
