Jorge Pedrosa is Full Professor at the School of Medicine, University of Minho, and Senior Researcher at the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS). He is President of the 2CA-Braga Academic Clinical Centre and of the Portuguese Society of Microbiology, and is a member of the Northern Regional Innovation Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His work also has a strong international dimension, with a focus on scientific cooperation between Portugal, Europe and Africa. He is a member of PLICIB \u2014 Lusophone Platform for Clinical Research and Biomedical Innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He holds a degree in Biochemistry and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Porto and obtained his Habilitation in Pathology from the University of Minho.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has developed extensive teaching experience in Immunology, Microbiology and Infectious Diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His research focuses on immunology of infection, microbiology and host\u2013pathogen interactions, spanning a continuum basic-clinical research. It has focused particularly on mycobacteriosis, namely tuberculosis and Buruli ulcer, contributing to the understanding of mechanisms of resistance to infection, immune responses and microbial pathogenesis, as well as to the development of therapeutic approaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He is the author of numerous scientific publications and has coordinated several research projects. His career has been recognised with several awards, including the JNICT Boa Esperan\u00e7a Science Award in 1989, the Pfizer Research Award in 1994, the Pulido Valente Science Award in 2010, and the P.PORTO Alumni Excellence Award in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Throughout his career, he has contributed to the consolidation of the School of Medicine, the ICVS and 2CA-Braga, promoting the integration of fundamental research, clinical research, innovation and knowledge valorisation. He has also served as Director of the ICVS, Vice-President of the School of Medicine and President of B.ACIS \u2014 Intellectual Property Protection and Technology Transfer \u2014 and was a member of the General Council of the University of Minho.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
