Fund from the former Convent of Our Lady of Jesus, comprising 980 manuscript volumes from the library of the friars of the Third Order of St Francis, and some documents from the Convent's registry office (most of this documentation is in the National Archive of Torre do Tombo).<\/p>

The themes are varied and constitute an important historical source. It contains: contains chapters on Courts, Theology, Canon Law, diplomatic correspondence, literary miscellany, epistolaries, sermons, travel itineraries, texts on colonial history, abundant data on churches and convents, and some Arabic codices. Highlights include: Koran (14th-15th centuries?), Kibt\u00e3b al-Hawi by Muhammad ibn Zakariyy\u00e3 al-R\u00e3zt, Curiosity by Friar Vicente Salgado (18th century).<\/p>

It consists of 2012 documents, originals and copies. Many reflect the historic organic function of the Academy, have heritage value, rarity, and extensive chronological scope.<\/p>

The themes are varied: literature, linguistics, sciences, medicine, theater, archaeology, architecture, education, legislation, numismatics, economy, law, heraldry, genealogy, diplomacy, military affairs, overseas expansion, administrative, political and religious institutions, travel accounts.<\/p>

Among the various illuminated books that enrich the Blue Series, we highlight\u00a0Lazaro Lu\u00eds' Atlas\u00a0<\/em>(1563), the\u00a0Memory of the fleets that sailed from Portugal to India (16th century).<\/em>\u00a0(s\u00e9c. XVI).<\/p>

Printed conventual collection, consists of about 25,000 volumes, chronologically covering the 16th century to the beginning of the 19th century, the works are organized by major themes such as: Theology, Philosophy, Roman Law, Canon Law, Jurisprudence, Humanities, History, Hagiographies, Mathematics, Natural History, and in general, all the topics that interested the Enlightenment spirit of the time.<\/p>

From this nucleus, we would highlight the 100 incunabula that are part of it, some Iberian sixteenth-century works, such as the 1589 edition of\u00a0Fr. Amador Arrais' Dialogues\u00a0<\/em>, the 1593 edition of Andr\u00e9 de Avelar's\u00a0Sphere\u00a0<\/em>, the 1552 edition of\u00a0Rerum memorabilium Hispanae\u00a0<\/em>by Vaseu.
