Profile

Rolf Kemmler (b. 1967) is an Invited Assistant Professor at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) in Vila Real, where he is a member of the Centre for Studies in Letters (CEL) and collaborates with the Linguistics Centre of the University of Porto (CLUP).

He holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Bremen (Germany, 2005), and a Doctor Phil. in Applied Linguistics from the University of Vigo (Spain).

His research focuses on linguistic historiography, historical Portuguese–Latin orthographies, and foreign language manuals, with a particular emphasis on the contexts of Portugal and Spain.

He is the author of studies on the Portuguese Language Orthographic Agreement (1990) and of re-editions of meteorographic treatises from the 16th and 17th centuries.
