Perfil
Claudio Pettinari, born in Camerino, Italy, is a distinguished chemist recognized for his extensive contributions to inorganic and organometallic chemistry. He graduated cum laude in chemistry from the University of Camerino in 1989. Since 2010, he has been a full professor of chemistry at the same university and a member of the National Research Council (CNR).
Pettinari’s research is mainly focused on the synthesis, characterization and reactivity of coordination and organometallic compounds, in particular involving N-, O- and S-donor heterocycles. His work has significant applications in the development of biologically active metal complexes, novel materials, and new catalysts for polymerization and oxidation reactions. In particular, he has contributed to the study of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and porous coordination polymers.
Pettinari is also committed to science communication and education. He has promoted the integration of the humanities into science communication and has been involved in initiatives that combine art and science to enhance public engagement. His multifaceted career underscores his significant contributions to advancing the chemical sciences and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
Throughout his career, Pettinari has authored approximately 400 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and holds several patents. His research excellence has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Flavio Bonati Prize in 1998 for his work in organometallic chemistry and the Raffaello Nasini Medal in 2004 for inorganic chemistry, both awarded by the Italian Chemical Society. In 2012, he received an honorary doctorate in chemistry from the University of Galati.
In addition to his research, Pettinari has held important academic and administrative positions. He served as Rector of the University of Camerino from 2017 to 2023 and was a member of the Conference of Italian University Rectors (CRUI), where he oversaw research and third mission activities. His commitment to international collaboration is evident through his involvement in various European research projects and partnerships with universities in Spain, France, Portugal and the United States.
