He has been professor of psychology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the University of Valencia, and the Complutense University of Madrid, as well as at the Distance University of Madrid (UDIMA). First Dean of the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Valencia (1983-8). Director of more than ten research projects and fifty doctoral theses. He was the founder and director of the Revista de Historia de la Psicología (Journal of the History of Psychology) and founder and first president of the Spanish Society for the History of Psychology. President of the Spanish Federation of Psychology Associations (1994-2004), member of the steering committees of the International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS, 2004-2012) and the International Union of Applied Psychology (IAAP) (1994-2012), and fellow of the latter (2006). Founder and first president of the IAAP Division of History of Applied Psychology (2010-14). His books include: Historia de las Ideas Psicológicas (History of Psychological Ideas) 1996; Historia de la psicologia en España (History of Psychology in Spain) 2004; Luis Simarro.De la psicología científica al compromiso ético (Luis Simarro. From scientific psychology to ethical compromise 2014); Julian Marías. Una vida en la verdad (Julian Marias, A life in the truth); Ortega y Gasset, psicólogo (Ortega y Gasset, as a psychologist, 2019). He is the author of numerous articles in international and national journals on the history of psychology. He holds honorary doctorates from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (Madrid), U. of Valencia, U. of Malaga, U. of Córdoba (Argentina), and U. of San Luis (Argentina). He is an honorary member of the General Council of Psychologists of Spain. Member of Academia Europaea, Associate member of the Académie Royale de Belgique, a foreign correspondent member of the Academia das Ciências de Lisboa (2005). He is a full member of the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences of Spain (2000) and of the Academy of Psychology of Spain (2015).
