Perfil

Luis Antonio Oro Giral is a Spanish chemist recognized for his extensive contributions to coordination and organometallic chemistry, particularly involving platinum group metals. He obtained his Ph.D. in 1970 from the University of Zaragoza and completed postdoctoral studies at the University of Cambridge (1972–1973). Over the course of his academic career, he held positions at the Universities of Zaragoza, Madrid Complutense, and Santander, becoming Chair Professor of Inorganic Chemistry in Zaragoza in 1982 and Emeritus Professor since 2015. From 2004 to 2013, he directed the Instituto Universitario de Catálisis Homogénea, and since 2010, he has been Visiting Chair Professor at the King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals.

Luis Oro Giral has authored over 600 publications, including significant works on synthesis, reaction mechanisms, and homogeneous catalysis. He co-authored Homogeneous Hydrogenation (1994) and co-edited Iridium Complexes in Organic Transformations (2009) and Metal Clusters in Chemistry (1999). In 2001, he was recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher by ISI Web of Knowledge. He has held leading editorial roles, including Co-Chair of the Editorial Board of ChemCatChem and Series Editor of Topics in Organometallic Chemistry. He presides over the ChemPubSoc partnership for leading European chemistry journals. As an invited lecturer, he has chaired prominent conferences such as the VI EuCheMS Inorganic Chemistry Conference (2000) and the XXII International Conference on Organometallic Chemistry (2006).

His numerous awards include the Lord Lewis Prize (2018), EuCheMS Award (2014), National Research Prize for Chemistry (2007), King Jaime I Prize (1999), and Humboldt Research Award (1995). He holds honorary doctorates from the Universities of Rennes I and Rovira i Virgili, and is a member of the German National Academy, Academia Europaea, and others.
