Maurizio Peruzzini, Doctor in Chemistry (1979) from the University of Florence, is the former Director (2017-2020) of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) Department of Chemical Sciences and Materials Technologies (DSCTMCNR), the largest research hub in Chemical Science and Technologies of Materials in Italy gathering about 1000 researchers spread over 11 Institutes. He has been Director (2011-2017) of the Institute for the Chemistry of Organometallic Compounds (ICCOM-CNR) in Florence, one of the top Italian research centers in catalysis, organometallic chemistry and chemistry for renewable energy, where he is currently Emeritus Research Director.
He served as chairman of the “Luigi Sacconi Foundation”, founding member of the Italian Academy of Engineering and Technology and foreign corresponding member of the Academia das Ciências de Lisboa, and of the European Academy of Sciences, A.I.S.B.L (EurASc). Maurizio Peruzzini served as Chair elected of the Division of Inorganic Chemistry of the Italian Chemical Society and received the prestigious “Cannizzaro” and “Nasini” gold medal prizes by the Italian Chemical Society. He is the recipient of the Ziegler – Natta lectureship prize by the German Chemical Society (2020) and the French-Italian Prize 2011 by the Société Chimique de France.
He served in several Editorial Boards of chemistry journals (ACS, Elsevier, MDPI, Wiley) and Senior Editor of Polyhedron. Furthermore, he is co-owner of 6 industrial patents, has published more than 400 scientific articles, and has gained an extensive experience in managing European and national research projects, as well as industrial contracts. He is the recipient (PI) of the ERC Advanced grant for the project “Phosphorene functionalization: a new platform for advanced multifunctional materials” (PHOSFUN) and of the ERC PoC Project “Exfoliated black phosphorus for biomedical applications” (PHOSMED).
