An anthropologist, he graduated from the École Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE), Université de Paris – Sorbonne (France), having submitted the work entitled La place des jumeaux dans le système religieux des Ndongo (Ambundu), Angola (Paris, EPHE, 1987, 524 pp.), where he also carried out doctoral studies in Ethnology, under the direction of Prof. Dr. Michel Cartry. He completed his master’s degree: Diplôme d’Études Approfondis (DEA), in the specialty of “Anthropologie comparée des Religions d’Afrique, d’Orient et d’Extreme Orient”, under the direction of Prof. Dr. Jacqueline Duvernay-Bolens, having submitted a dissertation entitled Le culte des “génies” ituta chez les Ndongo de la vallée du Kwanza, Angola (Paris, EPHE, 1978, 178 pp.). He is currently preparing his PhD in Social Anthropology at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Agostinho Neto University (UAN).

He is a retired Senior Advisor to the Ministry of Culture (MINCULT) and Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology (DA) at FCS-UAN), where he is currently teaching Ethnography of Angola I and II, Anthropology of the Symbolic; Historical Anthropology and Cultural Policy of Angola. He runs Edições Mulemba, the publishing house of FCS-UAN, and is the editor of Mulemba – Revista Angolana de Ciências Sociais; previously, he was the editor of: Maka – Revista de Literatura & Artes, organ of the Union of Angolan Writers (UEA) and Ngola – Revista de Estudos Sociais, organ of the Association of Anthropologists and Sociologists of Angola (AASA).

In 2010, he was awarded the “National Prize for Culture and the Arts”, in the Human and Social Sciences specialty (an annual prize from the Angolan government), for his work “Em busca de Kábàsà!…Estudos e reflexões sobre o «Reino» do Ndòngò.
