Profile

Professor António Silva Ribeiro is a guest full professor at Lusíada University. Previously he was a guest full professor at the Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Lisbon, Coordinating Professor at the Higher Institute of Information and Administration Sciences and Military Professor at the Higher Institute of Naval Warfare and at the Naval Academy. His main research themes are strategy theory, strategic planning and history. He has published twenty-seven books, six of which abroad. Of the books published, four discuss the theory of strategy, thirteen deal with strategic planning and the strategic process applied to the State, national defense, national security and the Armed Forçes, and ten cover topics of military history, maritime history and the history of hydrography. He has given more than 260 conferences and has more than 400 articles published in national and foreign newspapers and magazines.
In his military career, he reached the rank of Admiral and held the position of Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, between March 1, 2018 and March 1, 2023, having held, among others, the positions of Chief of the General Staff of the Navy and National Maritime Authority and Director-general of the National Maritime Authority and Commander-general of the Maritime Police, Director-general of the Hydrographic Institute, Coordinator of  Strategy and Professor of Strategy and Strategic Planning at the Higher Institute of Naval Warfare. He commanded two hydrographic ships.
Professor António Silva Ribeiro has a degree in military-naval sciences, with a specialization in hydrography, a master’s degree in strategy and a doctorate in political science, with a specialization in strategic studies.
