Profile
Ana Bela Cruzeiro is a Full Professor (since 2002) in the Department of Mathematics at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). She obtained her Master’s degree in Mathematics from the Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon (1980), and the Doctorat d’État ès Sciences Mathématiques from the University of Paris VI (1985), with a thesis on analysis on the Wiener space, under the supervision of Paul Malliavin. She earned her Habilitation in Mathematics at the University of Lisbon in 1991.
She served as Maître de Conférences at the Department of Mathematics of the Faculté des Sciences d’Orsay – University of Paris-Saclay (1985–1986), and as Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon (1986–2002).
Her research focuses on stochastic analysis and infinite-dimensional analysis, as well as probabilistic and geometric methods in mathematical physics (hydrodynamics). She coordinated major research projects such as “Probabilistic approach to finite and infinite-dimensional dynamical systems” (FCT, 2010–2012) and “From stochastic geometric mechanics to mass transport problems” (FCT, 2016–2019).
She was President of the Portuguese Mathematical Society (2000–2004), a member of the Scientific Council of IST (2021–2024), and a member of the Scientific Council for Exact Sciences and Engineering of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) (2017–2023). She currently serves on the General Council of the University of Lisbon (since 2021) and is President of the Research Center Grupo de Física-Matemática at IST.
