Profile

Patrícia Gonçalves holds a degree in Mathematics from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto and a Ph.D. in Mathematics/Probability (2007) from the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics of Rio de Janeiro, with a thesis entitled: “Central Limit Theorem for a Tagged Particle in Asymmetric Simple Exclusion”, under the supervision of Claudio Landim. Postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics, University of São Paulo (2008). Visiting Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the New University of Lisbon (2009), she is currently Full Professor at the Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon. She works in the domain of interacting particle systems and her research has focused particularly on the scale limit of these systems, namely the hydrodynamic limit, fluctuations and large deviations. Patrícia Gonçalves is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Electronic Communications in Probability and Associate Editor of the Annals of Probability. She is also on the editorial boards of The Annals of Applied Probability and Electronic Journal of Probability. In 2016 she was awarded an ERC Starting Grant in Mathematics: “Hydrodynamic limits and equilibrium fluctuations: universality from stochastic systems”. She was an invited speaker at the Probability sector session at the 29th International Congress of Mathematicians in St. Petersburg in July 2022 and recently presented the Schramm Lecture at the 11th World Congress in Probability and Statistics in Bochum (Germany) in June 2024.
