Electrotechnical Engineer (IST,1974); Ph.D. in Physics (University of Chicago 1979).
Agregação-Universidade Nova de Lisboa – Material Sciences Department, same for Coordinator Researcher at INETI, within the Renewable Energies Department, Full Guest Professor Physics Department, IST, Chairman of the Renewable Energies Chair at the Universidade de Évora and Director of IIFA- Advanced and Research Institute, the Doctoral School of the University of Évora.
Other functions: twice President of CCE -Centre for Energy Conservation (present day ADENE- National Energy Agency); Founder and twice President of SPES- Sociedade Portuguesa de Energia Solar, Portuguese section of ISES; founder and President of the IPES- Portuguese Institute for Solar Energy; CSO of several companies in the Solar Energy area.
Several times representative of the Portuguese Government in European Union instances in the Non-Nuclear Energies area as well as in the CYTED program (Subprogram VI -Renewable Energies for the rural world – Iberia and Latin America).
Recipient of several prizes in particular the IEA- International Energy Agency Life time Achievement award (2008).
Author of more than 250 scientific papers and more than 12 patents.
At present: retired and Scientific Adviser of Vanguard Properties, the largest building promotor in Portugal for the areas of Energy and Sustainability.
