Paul Robin Krugman (b. February 28, 1953, Albany, New York) is an American economist, author, and academic, internationally recognized for his contributions in the fields of international trade theory, economic geography, and macroeconomic policy.

He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1977 and has taught at several prestigious institutions, including MIT, Stanford University, and Princeton University, where he lectured for many years at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. He is currently a professor at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY).

In 2008, he was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his pioneering work in New Trade Theory and New Economic Geography, where he explained patterns of trade and the location of economic activity through models that incorporate economies of scale and consumer preferences for diversity.

In addition to his academic work, he is a prominent columnist for The New York Times, where he discusses issues of economic policy and globalization in a clear, critical, and accessible style.
