Rolf Nagel (b. December 15, 1938, Mönchengladbach, Germany) is a prominent Romanist and researcher in the field of Lusitanistics.

He earned both his degree and doctorate in Romance Philology from the University of Cologne, where he specialized in Portuguese language and literature studies.

After a long career as an archivist and historian, he served as Director of the Stadtarchiv Neuss between 1990 and 2001.

He was appointed Visiting Professor at the University of Göttingen, joining its faculty as a specialist in Romance studies and heraldry, contributing to several research projects in this field.

His academic work includes pioneering studies in heraldry, historical linguistics, and archival organization, reflecting an interdisciplinary path that bridges philology, cultural history, and applied linguistics.
