José Martinho Montero Santalha holds degrees in Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University (Rome), in Philosophy from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas (Rome), and in Philology from the National University of Distance Education (Madrid). He earned his Ph.D. at the University of A Coruña (2000), with a dissertation on troubadour poetry.
A Galician theologian and linguist, he is a professor at the Faculty of Education and Sport Sciences of the University of Vigo. He was the first President of the Galician Academy of the Portuguese Language (2008).
Among his works, the following stand out: Directrices para a reintegración linguística galego-portuguesa (1979) and Método prático de língua galego-portuguesa (1983).
