Profile

Novelist, essayist, historian, translator, and poet. He earned a degree in History from the Fluminense Federal University and a Ph.D. in Literary Science from the Faculty of Letters of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, where he has been Full Professor of Comparative Literature since 1989. He completed his postdoctoral studies in Renaissance Philosophy at the University of Cologne (Germany).

He is a researcher at the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), a member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters, and Director of the National Library of Rio de Janeiro.

Among his works published in Portugal, the following stand out Clio, Marina e Pedra Riscada (Porto: Edições Esgotadas, 2024).
