Anthropologist and archaeologist, with notable work on the Portuguese presence in the Río de la Plata, particularly in the Uruguayan city of Colonia del Sacramento, a former Portuguese settlement (1680–1777), classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995.
Nelsys Zambetogliris earned a degree in Anthropological Sciences from the Faculty of Humanities of the University of the Republic, Uruguai (1983). She is a member of the Comisión de Patrimonio Cultural de la Nación of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Uruguay. Since 2018, she has served as Honorary Consul of Portugal in Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay.
