Profile

Roberto Vecchi is Professor of Portuguese and Brazilian Literature and of the History of Portuguese Culture at the University of Bologna. He served as Director of the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the same institution and is a member of the board of the Umberto Eco Center of Studies (Bologna).

He was Honorary Professor of Lusophone Studies at the School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies of the University of Nottingham (2019–2021), President of the International Association of Lusitanists (2014–2016), and is a research associate at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra.

He is the author of an extensive bibliography on the Theory and History of Portuguese-speaking Cultures. Among his works are: Excepção Atlântica: pensar a literatura da Guerra Colonial (2010) and La Letteratura Portoghese: i testi e le idee (2017).
