He was the Director of the Egas Moniz Study Center and the Language Studies Laboratory.
He was Secretary and President of the Portuguese Society of Neurology.
He was President of the College of Neurology of the Medical Association.
He was a member of the Board of the International Society of Neuropsychology and later President in 2000.
He was a member of the National Health Council representing the University, as appointed by the Council of Rectors.
Around 200 articles and book chapters published, 10 books published.
Various awards, including 3 times the Pfizer award from the Society of Medical Sciences, the Bial award, and the Distinguished Career Award from the International Neuropsychological Society.
