Profile

Artur Anselmo conducts research and teaches in the field of Humanities, particularly in Philology, Literary Studies, and the History of the Book. He obtained his Agregação from NOVA – Universidade Nova de Lisboa in 1998 and obtained a Doctorate in Portuguese Studies from the Sorbonne in 1980. He is an Emeritus Professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at NOVA – Universidade Nova de Lisboa, where he served as President of the Scientific Committee of the Department of Portuguese Studies.
He is a Corresponding Member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters. He served as President of the Class of Letters between 2013 and 2018 and as President of the Academy in 2014 and from 2016 to 2018. Within the Academy, he also held the positions of Library Inspector and President of the Institute of Lexicology and Lexicography of the Portuguese Language.
In 2024, he was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Camões in recognition of his contributions to Camonian studies.
