Trained as a Hispanist and holding a Doctor ès-Lettres from the Sorbonne (1975), Daniel-Henri Pageaux is a writer, novelist, and university professor, specializing in Comparative Literature of Ibero-America. He first taught at the University of Haute-Bretagne (Rennes), and later at Paris-Sorbonne, where he is now Professor Emeritus of General and Comparative Literature. He received an Honorary Doctorate from Università Kore di Enna (Sicily).

Among his published works are: Images du Portugal dans les lettres françaises, 1700-1755 (1971), Teoria da Literatura (1982), La Littérature Générale et Comparée (1994), La Lyre d’Amphion: pour une poétique sans frontières (2001), Littératures et Cultures en dialogue (2007), and De Cervantes a Vargas Llosa (2019).

In his honor, a three-volume collection entitled Plus Oultre: mélanges offerts à Daniel-Henri Pageaux (2007, 2011, and 2016) was published.
