Profile

Geographer, Emeritus Full Professor, University of Coimbra. Researcher at the Centre for Studies in Geography and Spatial Planning (CEGOT). Her research focuses on scientific areas such as Population Geography, Marginal Areas and Development, Tourism, Territory, and Culture. She was the coordinator, on behalf of the University of Coimbra, of the UNESCO network Cultural Tourism and Development (2012-2018).

She has published around 250 works, including books, articles, and conference proceedings, in various countries such as Brazil, the United States, Spain, Argentina, the United Kingdom, India, Israel, and Sweden, among others. Her main research interests include Population Geography, Tourism, Territory, and Development. She was also the coordinator of CEGOT (2008-2011).

She was a Full Member of the IGU Commission on Evolving Issues of Geographical Marginality in the Early 21st Century World (2000-2012).
