Writer, her work spans novels, essays, and theater. She studied at the Institut d’Études Politiques de Paris and at the École Nationale d’Administration. She was a member of the Conseil d’État and held several positions in the French public administration, in both economic and cultural sectors.

Among her published works are: L’Allée du Roi (1981), L’Enfant des Lumières (1995), La Chambre (2002), La Reine Oubliée (2011–2022), and L’Or des Rivières (2024). She has received several prizes, including the Prix des Ambassadeurs (1981), the Prix Chateaubriand (1990), the Prix Pierre-Lafue (2003), and the Prix Palatine du Roman Historique (2012).

She has been a member of the Académie Goncourt since 1995 and was awarded the rank of Officer of the Légion d’Honneur and the Grand Cross of the Ordre National du Mérite.
