Biologist and Full Professor of Biodiversity and Ecology at the University of Coimbra. Founder and Coordinator of the Centre for Functional Ecology and holder of the UNESCO Chair in Safeguarding Biodiversity for Sustainable Development. She has received numerous distinctions, including the Comenda of the Order of Infante D. Henrique, in 2000, the Portugal Inspiring Personality of the Year Award in 2022 and the Ernst Haeckel Award from EEF for her contributions to European ecological science, in 2023.
