(in 1997); Full Professor at the Faculty of Economics (FEUC) of U.C., from 1998 to 2020; Emeritus Professor from FEUC – U.C. (in 2020); founding member of the Monetary and Financial Studies Group (GEMF, in 1983) which gave rise to CEBER; member of the CEBER research center; author of The Currency, the State and the Market (Imprensa Nacional – Casa da Moeda, 1988); author of Economics Lessons (Minerva, 2004); co-author with Fernando Alexandre, Ives Gandra Martins, Paulo Rabello de Castro and Pedro Bação of The International Financial Crisis (U.C. Imprensa da U.C., 2009); and co-author with Rita Martins, Micaela Antunes and Nuno Silva (Principles of Microeconomics – Questions and Exercises (Imprensa da U.C., 2023); cultural interests in national and world economic history with an emphasis on the post-interwar period and the Holocaust; researcher in the areas of “monetary policy” and “applied macroeconomics”, although he has collaborated with colleagues in research in the areas of economic development, economic policy and inequality.
