Jorge Ferrão holds a degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from the Higher Institute of International Relations (Maputo), a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of Zimbabwe, and a Ph.D. from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro. His academic and professional work has focused on the implementation and management of Southern African transfrontier parks, such as the Great Limpopo.
He served as Rector of Lúrio University (Nampula) and of the Pedagogical University of Maputo, President of the Association of Portuguese-Speaking Universities, and member of the Executive Committee of the Association of Universities of Southern Africa. He was Minister of Education and Human Development of the Government of Mozambique (2015).
He is a member of the Academy of Sciences of Mozambique and was awarded the Portuguese rank of Grande Oficial da Ordem do Infante D. Henrique (2018).
