Jurist and political scientist. José Ramón Montero has taught at the Universities of Granada, Santiago de Compostela, Zaragoza, and Cádiz. He is Full Professor of Political Science at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and has been a visiting professor at Harvard University, the University of California, Berkeley (USA), and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.

His research focuses on the evolution of political parties, electoral behavior, and political culture. Among his best-known and widely disseminated works are Democracy in Modern Spain (Yale University Press, 2004) and The Politics in Spain (Cambridge University Press, 2009).
