Luís Campos is a specialist in internal medicine, founder and president of the Portuguese Council for Health and the Environment, commissioner for the 2021–2030 National Health Plan, and Global Ambassador for the American College of Physicians. He is an Honorary Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Fellow of the European Federation of Internal Medicine. In 2024, he received the National Internal Medicine Award.
Among other previous roles, he served as hospital care coordinator for the Portuguese Ministry of Health’s Health Policy Implementation Support Group; chair of the Quality of Care and Professional Issues Committee of the European Federation of Internal Medicine; director of the Internal Medicine and Emergency Departments at São Francisco Xavier Hospital; professor at NOVA Medical School; president of the Portuguese Society of Internal Medicine (SPMI); member of the Medical Council of José de Mello Saúde; president of the National Council for Quality in Healthcare; member of the CUF group that coordinated the development of the model and design for new public–private partnership hospitals; national coordinator of the Electronic Health Record; national coordinator of SPMI’s Autoimmunity Study Group; and adviser to the Regional Governments of Macau and the Azores.
Luís Campos has delivered more than 650 lectures and has authored or co-authored approximately 340 conference presentations, dozens of publications, and 17 book chapters. He has also co-edited two books.
Alongside his medical career, he has pursued an artistic practice since 1981, holding 28 solo exhibitions and participating in 52 group exhibitions in Portugal and abroad. His work is held in the collections of most Portuguese national museums, as well as several international museums.
