Maria de Lurdes Correia Fernandes completed her training and academic career at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto, in the area of Romance Studies and, in particular, Iberian Studies – Portuguese and Spanish Cultures, the main focus areas of her research and teaching. She is currently a retired full professor in the Department of Romance and Classical Studies and an integrated researcher at the Philosophy Institute of the same Faculty.
In addition to her diversified teaching activity since 1982 in the above-mentioned areas, she is the author of dozens of scientific publications (books, book chapters and articles in specialised journals) and papers at national and international congresses. Her philological interests have also materialised in the publication of various texts on Portuguese culture in the Modern Period.
She has been a visiting professor at foreign universities, a collaborator on indexed scientific journals and international projects. She has held various management positions, including President of the Board of Directors of FLUP (2015-2016), Vice-Rector of the University of Porto (2006-2016 and 2018-2021). President of the Instituto/ Fundação Arquitecto José Marques da Silva (2006-2014), among others. She has been a member (as chair or as a member) of various scientific committees, both congresses and evaluation committees (FCT, A3ES, AQU Catalunya).
