Profile

Pedro Duarte has been a Professor at Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa (FCUL) since 2000. He graduated in Mathematics from FCUL in 1985. He obtained his PhD in 1993 in the area of ​​Dynamical Systems, under the supervision of Jacob Palis, at the Instituto de Matemática pura e Aplicada (IMPA) in Rio de Janeiro, and his Habilitation in 2017 by FCUL.

Among his contributions of greatest scientific impact are his solo work on the abundant creation of elliptical islands (Newhouse phenomenon) in area-preserving maps (4 articles) and more recently with several collaborators, the study of the regularity of Lyapunov exponents for linear cocycles (1 book, 14 articles and an FCT project that he coordinated).

He is the coordinator of the Doctoral program of the Department of Mathematics at FCUL.
